The Center for the Arts is offering a hands-on, instructional and fun Mural Program for students between the ages of 12 – 17.
This free program pairs students with professional area artists to learn artistic, technical, and developmental skills in the process of designing and executing a full scale mural. This year’s mural program will be lead by Homer Schools Arts Teacher Brookley Spanbauer, along with Bryan Thomas (SUNY Cortland) and Scott Oldfield (SUNY Cortland).
10:00am – 2:00pm
July 11 – August 15
Students will identify one on-campus project and then plan, implement, and evaluate through to completion, giving participants full (guided) authorship over the projects. This unique program inspires creative problem solving, artistic exploration, collaboration, innovation, and opportunity for area youth to act as creative leaders.
Applicants should have an interest in exploring the presentation of their work in a public settings and an interest in community-building. Applicants should also be committed to learning how to maintain artistic creativity and vision. The mural program is open to youth living in Cortland, Onondaga and Cayuga Counties. This is a non-competitive process, yet artists must apply to be considered.
This program is sponsored, in part, by NYBDC, Cortland Breakfast Rotary Club, and Byrne Dairy.
